Skull session: Urban Meyer wins another victory Jim Harbaugh, Meyer could sketch Justin Fields and The Narrative Ohio State’s Loss Perpetua

One of my favorite things about 2021 so far is that Jae’Sean Tate is really good.

Raise your hand, dismissed him from having any chance in the league, unless he developed an external shot or grew about ten centimeters. He did nothing and seems to be doing great!

Word of the day: melifluo.

ANOTHER WINS IN HARBAUGH. Urban Meyer retired from kicking Jim Harbaugh’s ass two years ago, but he did it again unintentionally.

See, Harbaugh – widely known for his experience in the NFL – has one of the worst job security guards on the planet and has just spent the last month or so shopping for any NFL team he will listen to and has found no one who even seriously considered it.

Meanwhile, Meyer, doing very well in his comfortable TV job and his position on the Ohio State team, seemed to be almost begged by the Jacksonville Jaguars to come out of retirement and coach their football team with absolutely no NFL experience.

It is a hilarious story of two careers.

Score another big win for Urban Meyer over Jim Harbaugh.

Although Harbaugh has found no NFL candidate other than posting his resume on Monster.com, his old rival is set to fill the most coveted NFL spot.

Meyer was announced Thursday night as the next coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he will laugh at The Bank (TIAA Bank Field) to take on a franchise that has rights over the potential defender since Andrew Luck (Trevor Lawrence), plus three draft choices from the top 50 and more than $ 80 million in cap space.

Not so long ago, Harbaugh was one of the biggest stars in the NFL, where he took San Francisco to three NFC title games – and a Super Bowl – in his four seasons there. Then it became his most unattainable prize, his first years in Michigan accompanied by an annual wave of optimistic speculation.

If you thought it would be possible that Meyer – a college coach of all time, but with no professional experience – would be the most desired NFL candidate, I would have a beachfront property in Bowling Green to sell him.

And yet here we are.

Personally, I think it would have been hilarious if Harbaugh got a show in the NFL and they somehow ended up in the same division – because you know very well how it would have happened every year.

But this is also great.

FIELDS FOR FIRST? Trevor Lawrence was named the best overall choice in the NFL’s 2021 Draft, since winning the national title as a true freshman. But with Urban Meyer taking the reins in Jacksonville, is there a chance he will choose Justin Fields?

There he sat, one of the less than 4,000 people allowed in the building, looking down from the top of the New Orleans Superdome with his future career change considerations unfolding before his eyes.

Urban Meyer had participated in Fox Sports pre- and post-game programs for the Clemson-Ohio State CFP semifinal game on New Year’s Day, and by then reports of his interest in the Jacksonville Jaguars coach job were coming to a boil .

In a sideline was Trevor Lawrence de Clemson, the big favorite to be the No. 1 choice in the 2021 draft of the NFL. On the other: Justin Fields of Ohio State, trained by Meyer’s protégé Ryan Day, on a show that Meyer transformed into one of the sport’s unquestionable titans.

Oh, to get into Meyer’s head that night while he sat and watched Fields beat Lawrence.

There have also been reports that Meyer has long been in love with Lawrence, which shouldn’t be so shocking considering … he ranked Lawrence ahead of Fields earlier in the season on Fox.

Could your opinion have changed dramatically in the past five months? Did Fields’ monster game that night in New Orleans change anything? Could the trusted Day convince his ex-boss about Fields? And would that matter?

Meyer did not recruit or train Fields, but he certainly knows him. He became famous by sitting next to him at a basketball game during Fields’ early days on campus, was assistant athletics director the entire time Fields was in Ohio, and mentored Fields in his leadership classes while Fields was a captain.

That said, I think the whole “connection to the state of Ohio” thing is a bit over the top. If Meyer catches Fields, it will not be because he knows him from the leadership classes, it will be because Fields is his wet dream of a quarterback with his passing and racing skills.

Now, the NFL game is different from the professional game and Meyer may not be looking for an elite passer who is built like Herschel Walker. In addition, Meyer has been notoriously tall with Trevor Lawrence, so there is a strong chance that this is where the Jags go anyway.

But personally, I think the Fields vs. Lawrence will be much stronger than people think – in this year’s draft and in the years to come.

Where does it hurt. Regarding the defeats in the national title game, I think that this year’s loss to Bama is as harmless as possible. I really don’t see much long-term damage to the show and as a fan, I’m less bitter about this loss than with a typical regular season slip.

But there was a huge missed opportunity that will haunt me for a while.

Now, imagine what that Tweet would say if the Buckeyes beat Bama.

For years, the narrative surrounding college football has been that Alabama and Clemson are in a league of their own and everyone else is at least one level behind. Ohio State had a chance to end this narrative this year and tie Bama and Clemson with the most titles in the playoff era. Instead, the loss helps to perpetuate it.

But it’s alright. Let’s just recite three in a row and claim first place on our own, okay?

DOES TATE REMAIN A BAT? The way things have changed for our good friend Tate Martell in Miami, I would have defined the chances of him transferring this offseason around -800.

But it looks like he plans to stick around after all.

Quarterback Tate Martell was one of four hurricanes who opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Martell plans to return to Miami when the spring semester begins on January 25, according to a source.

Certainly the team will have to welcome Martell back and discussions will have to be held with him so that he can return to the team’s activities, as he was not close to the team months after serving a suspension to start the 2020 season. and being away from the team sometimes in 2019 for personal reasons.

To be completely fair, this does not exclude a transfer. I mean, it’s not like this is the first time that Martell intended to return to a school before being transferred a few days later.

And, honestly, he probably should transfer. As difficult as his journey was, he clearly has some talent and college football would be a lot more fun if he was starting with a Solar Belt team.

I have no hate for Tate. I want to see him doing his thing somewhere where he really has a chance to play, and it is becoming clear that this is not going to happen in Miami.

A LITTLE MORE TIME. You can expect this to be a busy week for player announcements, as all seniors have until Monday to decide whether to enter the NFL Draft.

But we may not hear everyone who’s on the fence, because the NFL is giving veterans extra time.

We have heard from Marcus Williamson that he is returning, but other than that, there have been no official announcements.

For what it’s worth, most of Ohio State’s fourth-year players participated in Senior Citizens Day festivities, probably signaling that they are leaving. But there was some notable resistance on that front, including Haskell Garrett and Shaun Wade.

I find it hard to believe that we will have to wait until March for these decisions, but if the best defensive tackle of the top ten in the third team in the world and the best safety on the list want to provoke me for a month and a half, it is their right and I respect that .
