Skateboarder uses umbrella to slide across ice like Mary Poppins

It’s an umbrella.

An inventive Canadian skater impressed social media users after using an umbrella to slide across the ice like Mary Poppins.

“It turned out to be a good idea, as we could really cover the lake quickly,” said Devin Jenson of his bold ice cover. The stuntman invented the “very fun” mode of transportation while playing hockey with friends at Three Valley Lake, near Revelstoke, British Columbia.

“My friend Bill then realized he had an umbrella in his car, so we thought about trying to pick up speed,” he told Storyful.

In the one-minute video that follows, Jenson can be seen on roller skates with his umbrella extended like the beloved Disney character as the wind pulls him across the ice through his makeshift paraglider. The comic clip ends with the subzero windsurfer pointing his thumb up at the cameraman as he passes.

“Not only was there no snow, but it was also perfectly smooth and flat, which made for an incredible afternoon,” said the daredevil, who had not seen the lake freeze like this, despite living there since 1989.
