‘Single’ Matt James admits the conversation with his distant father ‘was difficult to experience’

It was an exciting night in The bachelor, Monday, when Matt James confronted his distant father. James was raised by his mother, Patty, and confronted his father, Manny, for leaving them and being unfaithful to his mother. The conversation was uncomfortable, but James felt it was also very important.

“I remember, as he grew up, he showed up from time to time, left some shoes, bought pizza for us. said James, fighting tears. “I didn’t need shoes. I didn’t need pizza. I needed a father. “

Sometimes James and his father’s conversation was intense, but ultimately beneficial. James told his father that the infidelity he showed his mother and the abandonment he experienced impacted him negatively later in life.

“Keeping that negativity in my life has not made any progress in my relationships,” said James. “It hindered my growth and, in order to move forward, I need to deal with these demons in my life.”

The conversation received mixed reactions from fans on social media, with most viewers posting that the conversation was very personal and exploratory.

Although, some viewers, however, were happy with ABC on the air such a frank conversation.

James himself used Twitter to talk about the episode and expand the importance of sharing those interactions.

In a series of tweets, James wrote: “Tonight’s conversation with my dad was difficult to experience, and it’s so difficult to watch all this time later, especially knowing that the world is watching with me … I just wanted to say that too we often see dangerous stereotypes and negative representations of black parents in the media. And they have consequences when presented without context … All I hope is that people will watch this conversation with nuance, care and also with the understanding that there are real systemic issues at stake. I am very proud of myself for being vulnerable and very proud of my mother. I would not be who I am without my father. This is a fact.”

The bachelor airs on Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
