Sheryl Underwood reflects on Sharon Osbourne’s heated encounter: ‘I slept well’

Sheryl Underwood talked about how she felt after Sharon Osbourne, her co-host for “The Talk”, yelled at her during an argument last week about Piers Morgan’s relentless attacks on Meghan Markle.

The comedian was “relieved” after all the ordeal, she said on Saturday in an episode of her podcast, “The world according to Sheryl”.

“I had a good night’s sleep. I slept well because I didn’t do anything to anyone, ”she said. “And I was a good friend, no matter what came my way, I was a good friend.”

During an episode of “The Talk” last week, Underwood asked Osbourne about tweeting his support for Morgan, who publicly cast doubt on things the Duchess of Sussex said during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. During that interview, Meghan talked about her experiences in dealing with racism and revealed that she had thought about suicide.

“What would you say to people who can feel that, while you are with your friend, it looks like you are giving validation or safe haven to something he said is racist?” Underwood asked Osbourne.

The conversation quickly changed when a fiery Osbourne demanded that Underwood “teach” her about how Morgan’s rejection of Meghan’s experiences – and her longstanding fixation on her – could be considered racist. (See parts of the segment below.)

In the podcast episode released on Saturday, Underwood also pointed out that she tried to explain the differences between covert and open racism for Osbourne.

She then discussed what it was like on the set right after the heated argument.

“The vibe for me was, it was already forgiven and over as soon as it was said,” she said. “As soon as the shouting and screaming happened, I was already forgiven and finished.”

“I don’t know what’s going on in Sharon’s heart, I don’t know what she’s feeling,” said Underwood later. “The only feelings I can control … are mine.”

Underwood said that Osbourne approached her to chat after the interaction in the air, but that they “crushed” her.

Osbourne told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday that she was surprised when Underwood questioned her about Morgan and that she felt she was “arming”. She told ET that she loved Underwood and apologized to her, but that “she didn’t come back.”

“I should never have dismissed your feelings on national TV, never,” added Osbourne.

Earlier this week, journalist Yashar Ali reported that Osbourne had been accused of making racist and homophobic comments about his former colleagues. She denied these charges.

CBS put “The Talk” on a brief hiatus after Osbourne and Underwood’s conversation about Morgan. The network told Deadline on Tuesday that it extended the hiatus until next week and that it was investigating “important concerns expressed and discussions taking place about the events on ‘The Talk'”.
