Sheriff’s office identifies suspected stalemate on Wednesday

SAN ANGELO, TX – Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office released more information about Wednesday’s standoff.

According to Tom Green County, on January 6, at approximately 10:30 am, investigators in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office were watching a known fugitive.

When the fugitive was getting into a vehicle, he observed investigators and started to flee the vehicle. Investigators began to follow him and when the fugitive turned a corner at high speed, he lost control and flipped the vehicle over.

After the vehicle stopped, the suspect was observed with a firearm and after refusing to leave the vehicle he made a statement that he would not be taken alive. The investigators managed to calm the situation and the suspect, Agapito Chappa III, DOB 07/04/1980 surrendered without further incident.

The investigators were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Tom Green County Police, Texas Department of Public Security and San Angelo Police Department.
