Shelley Duvall performed five years after her controversial participation in 2016 on “Dr. Phil”.
The actress has lived a private life in Texas for almost three decades. His last credit in the film was the 2002 independent film “Manna from Heaven”. The 71-year-old woman told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Thursday that she was initially contacted by a producer for the daytime talk show.
Her appearance was criticized for being an explorer of her struggles for mental health.
“I found out what kind of person he is in the most difficult way,” admitted Duvall. “” My mom didn’t like him either.

According to Duvall, host Phil McGraw tried several times to try to contact his mother even after the show.
“He started calling my mom,” said Duvall. “She said to him, ‘Don’t call my daughter anymore.’ But he started calling my mom the whole time, trying to get her to let me talk to him again. “
In a statement to the news agency, a spokesman for “Dr. Phil” said: “We see every episode of Dr. Phil, including Miss Duvall and her fight against mental illness, as an opportunity to share information and perspectives useful and relatable to our audience. “

“We do not attribute the stigma associated with mental illness, as many do,” the statement continued. “With no one else offering help, our goal was to document the fight and bring incredible resources to change its trajectory, as we have done for so many over 19 years.

“Unfortunately, she declined our initial offer of hospital treatment which would include complete physical and mental assessments, giving her a chance to deal with her challenges in private. After many months of follow-up, in collaboration with her mother, she ended up refusing help. of course we were very disappointed, but these offers of help remain open today. “
THR writer Seth Abramovitch shared that while Duvall’s “mood waned and flowed throughout the day”, his memory was “clear”. She also looked “visibly distressed” when McGraw’s name was mentioned.
“It didn’t seem right that McGraw’s heartless secondary show was the final word on his legacy,” he wrote.

One of the many people who criticized McGraw, 70, for showing Duvall’s appearance at the time, was Vivian Kubrick, daughter of “The Shining” director Stanley Kubrick.

“You are showing off Shelly Duvall while she is in a sorry state of health,” Kubrick tweeted. “Unquestionably, this is purely a form of shocking and exploiting entertainment – it is terribly cruel.”
“Shelley Duvall was a movie star … any dignity that a mere unfortunate creature can have in this world, is denied by you showing it off in that way,” continued the 60-year-old. “I recoil in complete disgust. I hope others will join me in boycotting their totally cruel form of entertainment, because it has nothing to do with compassionate healing. Sincerely disgusted.”
