Shelley Duvall reflects on the exhaustive film schedule of The Shining in a rare interview

Shelley Duvall participated in a rare interview reflecting on her experience in filming the classic horror film The Shining.

The 71-year-old actress, who played Wendy Torrance in the Stanley Kubrick classic, spoke about the pressure to shoot some of the most dramatic scenes from the 1980 film.

Shelley, who has not worked as an actress since 2002, has been a recluse in recent years.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter from near her home in Texas Hill County, the retired actress reflected on the “difficult” filming process, which included numerous repetitions.

“[Kubrick] it doesn’t print anything until at least the 35th take “, she explained to the publication.

“Thirty-five takes, running and crying and carrying a little boy, is difficult. And complete performance since the first rehearsal. This is difficult.”

As for entering the character, Shelley also revealed that she would listen to sad songs on her Walkman to fully immerse herself and enter the character.

She added: “You just think about something very sad in your life or how much you miss your family or friends.

“But after a while, your body rebels.

She added, “Say,” Stop doing this to me. I don’t want to cry every day. “And sometimes just that thought would make me cry.”

The actress said she was surprised to be able to cry so much while filming the film.

Regarding his working relationship with the director, Shelley added that Kubrick was “friendly” and often wanted to spend more time with the main actors.

“He was very warm and friendly to me,” she said.

“He spent a lot of time with me and Jack. He just wanted to sit and talk for hours while the team waited. And the team said, ‘Stanley, we have about 60 people waiting.’ But it was a very important job. “
