Shane Beamer hires defensive line coach

South Carolina football added its next coach DL.

South Carolina is now just a full-team coach, with the news that Jimmy Lindsey will be hired as the next defensive line coach for the Gamecocks. Gamecock Central was the first to tell the story.

Lindsey was born in the state of Palmetto and grew up in Cheraw. He trained three seasons with new defensive coordinator Clayton White, while the two were in Western Kentucky. With the Hilltoppers, Lindsey served as a defensive assistant and recruitment coordinator. Last year, Lindsey was on Lovie Smith’s team in Illinois, where he helped Owen Carney become a second team player at every conference.

Throughout her 20-year career, Lindsey has coached seven All-American players and five defensive players of the year. He also had passages with his alma mater Chattanooga, Gardner-Webb, Miami (OH), Tennessee-Martin, Furman and Georgia Southern.

Lindsey’s familiarity with the Southeast should help you along the recruiting trail, as well as your experience as a recruiting coordinator. He inherits a defensive line room that returns two former five-star contenders, the team’s top sack getter and a number of highly regarded collaborators from the 2020 season.

Gamecocks desperately need to improve their pass rush, as South Carolina released 14 low SEC sacks last year. They will also need to be stronger against the race, where Gamecocks have yielded nearly 200 yards per game.

Lindsey replaces Tracy Rocker, who has now joined Auburn’s team. Rocker reportedly left the South Carolina facility without informing Shane Beamer of his intention to accept a new position. He didn’t show up at the team meeting yesterday.
