Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City Thunder will waste extended time with plantar fasciitis on her right foot

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to lose “a significant amount of time” due to plantar fasciitis on the right foot, according to coach Mark Daigneault.

Gilgeous-Alexander was added to the injury report on Wednesday, and he did not prepare for Oklahoma City’s 116-107 loss to visiting Memphis Grizzlies.

“I think he showed up this morning and that’s when we started to unpack,” said Daigneault of the injury. “I don’t have a lot of details about it, to be honest with you. It happened really fast today.”

Daigneault said there is no set timetable for the return of Gilgeous-Alexander – only that “it is not daily; it will be a more significant period of time”.

The coach indicated that the injury did not happen on a specific play and is in all probability “a little more cumulative” due to the wear and tear of the condensed season.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who leads Oklahoma City with 23.7 points per game, has an average of 34 minutes, the best on the team.

“As I said, he is a taller minute player who has traveled many kilometers so far this season, after a short period of off-season,” said Daigneault.

At 19-25, Thunder is in 12th place in the classification of the Western Conference.
