Senior members of the armed forces complain about Tucker Carlson for making fun of women serving in the military: his words ‘do not reflect our values’

Carlson, who is effectively the face of Fox and host of the main program on the right channel, ridiculed President Joe Biden on Tuesday for saying that the United States military had designed uniforms to properly serve women, created maternity overalls for pregnant women. and updated requirements for hairstyles.

“So, we have new hair styles and maternity flight coveralls,” Carlson snarled. “Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It is a mockery of the US military.”

Carlson’s comment generated a strong reaction from some of the oldest members of the US army, who openly called him for his damaging rhetoric.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin shared the same “disgust” that many military leaders expressed about Carlson’s sexist comments.

“The secretary certainly shares the disgust of so many others with what Carlson said,” Kirby told reporters on Thursday.

Kirby said the military still has “a lot of work to do” to become “more inclusive and respectful of everyone – especially women”.

“We promise to do better and we will,” said Kirby. “What we are absolutely not going to do is take personal advice from a talk show host or the Chinese military. Perhaps these people feel they have something to prove.

Other prominent military figures also participated on Twitter.

“Women lead our most lethal units with character. They will dominate ANY future battleground where we are called to fight,” tweeted Army Sergeant Major Michael A. Grinston. “@TuckerCarlson’s words are divisive, they don’t reflect our values. We have the most professional, polite, agile and strongest NCO in the world.”
General Paul Funk, who as head of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command defines policies and guides future changes for troops, tweeted that “thousands of women serve with honor every day around the world”.

“They are beacons of freedom and prove that Carlson is wrong through determination and dedication,” added Funk. “We are lucky that they serve with us.”

Major General Patrick Donahoe posted a video of him “conducting a re-enlistment for one of the tens of thousands of women who serve in our army.”
“Just a reminder that @TuckerCarlson couldn’t be more wrong,” said Donahoe. Deputy General Commander of Fort Hood John B. Richardson IV tweeted, “Mothers in uniform fight and win our nation’s wars. Fathers in uniform fight and win our nation’s wars. Soldier is not a gender noun.”

Lieutenant General Theodore D. Martin shared a photo of his daughter and said that “contrary to what you may be hearing” she and other women “are NOT” making fun of our military “.

“You WISH your daughter was as AMAZING as mine!” Martin added. “So, CHALLENGE YOURSELF.”

A Fox spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday morning.

Carlson regularly makes incendiary comments on his prime-time program. He was also called in by The New York Times this week for encouraging harassment against one of his journalists. And in the past, he has seen boycotts of large-scale advertisers commenting on the Black Lives Matter movement and immigration.
Carlson’s chief editor left his job last year after a CNN report revealed that he had used a pseudonym to post racist and sexist comments on an online forum.

Fox’s programming has become increasingly extreme in recent years and even more so after the November election, when it saw competition from smaller channels making an offer for its conservative audience.

The days when Fox called itself a “fair and balanced” news channel are gone. Most of the channel’s programming is now filled with right-wing comments.

Fox Corporation Chief Executive Lachlan Murdoch recently admitted that he sees the network’s role in the Biden years as “loyal opposition” to the White House.
