Senator Graham harassed at the airport by Trump supporters

WASHINGTON – Supporters of President Donald Trump protested against Senator Lindsey Graham at an airport, accusing the Republican of South Carolina of being a “traitor” for placing the blame on the Capitol siege at the feet of the president.

Videos posted on Twitter show a crowd pestering Graham as he waited for a flight at Washington’s Reagan Airport on Friday. Graham is flanked by police officers.

One woman said that he is a “rubbish human being”.

Graham has been one of Trump’s staunchest supporters, but said this week that he would not support efforts by other Republicans to prevent certification of Joe Biden’s victory. On Wednesday, at the Senate floor, Graham said “don’t count on me” from the effort, which failed.

On Thursday, Graham told reporters that Trump’s actions were the “problem” in Capitol violence, calling the issue a “self-inflicted wound”.

Other Republican Party lawmakers who opposed the certification challenge, including Republican Senator Mitt Romney, were also harassed by Trump supporters who did not want to accept the election results.
