Sen. Cassidy: Biden’s policies are ‘entirely’ to blame for increasing the border

Senator Bill Cassidy, R-La., Blames President Biden for the sudden increase in migrants that has created a crisis on the southern border of the United States.

February saw the largest number of unaccompanied minors trapped at the border since May 2019. Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace asked Cassidy to what extent Biden’s policies caused this.

“Empirically it is entirely. You can’t help but notice that the administration is changing and there is a sudden increase,” said Cassidy.

The senator recalled having heard one of Biden’s aides say in Spanish that the border was not closed, and then said in English that she had spoken badly.

“I can say that the Spanish version is being heard, not the English one,” he said, claiming that this message encourages people to send their children, even if it means putting them at risk.

“And then, when people think they can get in,” said Cassidy, “they start sending their unaccompanied child on a train ride through Mexico, where she can be kidnapped and trafficked, in the hope that they will be expelled at the border.”

The Biden government has refused to characterize the situation on the border as a “crisis”, despite asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support a “government effort” to house migrant children, as the numbers continue to rise.

Cassidy said this is evidence that the government expects the number of unaccompanied children to continue to grow.

“They are sending FEMA to seek reinforcements – not for today, not for tomorrow, but for three weeks from now,” he said.

At the beginning of the interview, Cassidy addressed the problems he has with the $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package that the Senate passed earlier this month. He stated that there is a lot of money going towards goals that are not really about relieving the pandemic.

“The money left over for education will be spent in the coming years,” explained the senator. “This is not related to COVID. If everyone gets vaccinated by June, then it is clearly not related to COVID.”

Cassidy also said that while he and other Republicans support stimulus payments “for the people in need,” the Democrats’ project does much more than that. He noted that stimulus checks are going to people, including inmates, who are not stimulating the economy and who are already supported by taxpayers.

“This is the kind of thing that shouldn’t be included,” he said.

As for small businesses, Cassidy said there was still enough money left over from the last relief account to go into the Paycheck Protection Program.

“The dollars are there now for the need that exists now,” he said.
