In the midst of Wednesday’s historic events, authorities lost control when people entered the Capitol building, vandalizing and breaking in, with a man arriving at Nancy Pelosi’s office. Local officials said a woman (who was not publicly identified) was shot dead inside the building amid chaos.
Twitter suspended Trump’s account on Wednesday after a series of tweets that did little to stem the ongoing violence.

“We demand the removal of three @realDonaldTrump tweets that were posted today for repeated and serious violations of our Civic Integrity Policy,” said the social media company. ‘This means that the @realDonaldTrump account will be blocked for 12 hours after removing these Tweets. If Tweets are not removed, the account will remain blocked. ‘
Gomez criticized Facebook last week with reports that they spread false information about the coronavirus, which she says has deadly consequences. She shared a link to a clip from a BBC segment with Imi Ahmed, CEO of the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a nonprofit organization in London.
In it, Ahmed said that social media companies have done “absolutely nothing” to prevent the spread of false information about vaccines and other aspects of the pandemic, citing experiences they have carried out.
Gomez responded to the segment in a tweet on Tuesday, saying: ‘Scientific misinformation has cost and will cost lives. @Facebook said it does not allow lies about COVID and vaccines to spread across its platforms.
