Scout team with Grubhub to deliver contactless cookies, launch online orders

With so many Americans still working remotely, how will mothers and fathers in the country sell cookies from their daughters Girl Scouts during the cookie season?

It is a concern that no one has bothered to address since the pandemic began – until now.

On Tuesday, the US Girl Scouts (GSUSA) announced a partnership with Grubhub to expand their sales channels – which previously consisted of door-to-door sales, online ordering, supermarket cookie stalls and marijuana dispensaries and, yes, welcome your parents to help, attracting your coworkers with easy access to Caramel deLites – to facilitate the delivery of contactless cookies.

GSUSA added that the Girl Scouts themselves will be heavily involved in the backroom processes to respond to Grubhub’s requests.

“A hands-on experience in e-commerce management, local Girl Scouts will track and fulfill orders, manage inventory and more, all using Grubhub’s back-end technology,” says a shared post on Tuesday. “As always, the recipe benefits the troops and the council, while providing another innovative way to run the cookie program virtually safely.”

Grubhub is also waiving the usual supplier fees for Boy Scouts, the organization wrote.

In addition to its new Grubhub delivery options, GSUSA is launching online cookie orders across the country, allowing customers “who don’t know a girl scout” or who don’t live near a troop to receive cookies at their doorstep.

“As of February 1, customers can enter their zip code in the Girl Scout Cookie Finder to find a local troop to buy through the Digital Cookie platform for direct sending or donation to local organizations,” writes GSUSA. “This additional non-contact method helps local girls, while maintaining their safety and skills development in the first place.”

Scouts are also launching online cookie orders across the country.

The pandemic, in turn, presented extra challenges for last year’s cookie sales, although some Girl Scouts have established “virtual cookie booths” and movement events to increase sales.

“We are proud of the ingenious ways in which the Girl Scouts are running their cookie business safely and using their earnings to make the world a better place,” said Judith Batty, interim CEO of GSUSA. “This season, our girls will continue to exemplify what the cookie program taught them – how to think like entrepreneurs, use innovative sales tactics and look for new ways to do business when things don’t go according to plan.”
