Schefter: Seattle Seahawks hires Shane Waldron as new Offensive Coordinator

The Seahawks have their new offensive coordinator. The Rams pass game coordinator Shane Waldron was hired by Seattle to replace Brian Schottenheimer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Waldron has been with the Rams organization since 2017 and previously held the roles of tight end coach and quarterback coach. He came with Sean McVay from Washington in 2017.

Waldron probably brings with him some of McVay’s philosophies and creativity. McVay bets on a strong racing game, so it makes sense for Waldron to check the necessary boxes for Pete Carroll. The goal is for Waldron to bring varied looks to the Seattle racing game, in addition to a successful short and intermediate passing game. Much of Sean McVay’s attack is about horizontal movement, facade and opening of players in space.

All of these are features that would be welcome additions in Seattle. The big question (and one for which we won’t know the answer until next September) is how Carroll’s ideologies will combine with Waldron’s and how much freedom Waldron will have to implement his own scheme.

It should also be assumed that Russell Wilson met with Waldron and gave his stamp of approval on hiring before Seattle finalized the addition.

We hope to hear from Waldron in the near future, but now we know that the search is over and the Seahawks have their new OC.
