“Saturday Night Live” returned from its winter vacation with a segment of “Weekend Update” determined to follow the violent riots on the United States Capitol and the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Presenters Colin Jost and Michael Che seemed eager to get back from the “Weekend Update” table after the show went dark during the busy weeks leading up to the opening.
“A lot has happened since our last show,” Jost started the segment on Saturday. “A lot was good. The opening, that was good. Christmas, I liked Christmas. And hey, now the list of terrorists on watch includes whites. So, wow for the diversity! It’s important to be represented.”

Che also labeled people who breached Capitol security as white supremacists by making fun of President Joe Biden’s recent executive order calling for more American-made products to be purchased in the United States.
“President Biden signed an executive order urging US agencies to buy products made in the United States,” began Che. “Unfortunately, the only products still made in America are tactical equipment for white militias and student loan debt.”
In another part of the segment, Che introduced Cecily Strong as a character named Cathy Anne, to talk about the “wrong” movement of people who invaded Capitol earlier this month. The character went on to call the protesters “Nazis” and “white supremacists” as well.
“These Republicans will do nothing about these traitors, even if they are the ones who will be killed,” she said. “What the hell is wrong with them?”

The stupid, heavy-smoker character compared Republican lawmakers to skunks, hissing and pretending to be dead.
Jost also commented on Trump’s second historic impeachment that resulted from the Capitol riots. Specifically, he criticized US Senator Rand Paul, who has been a staunch critic of Democratic pressure to impeach the former president, even considering him unconstitutional.

“It is at times like this that I think it is important that we, as a country, remember that Rand Paul was kicked by the neighbor while mowing the lawn,” mocked the host, referring to the violent attack that Rand suffered at the hands of his neighbor, Dr Rene Boucher, on a dispute over lawn care.
“Now, as hilarious as it was to watch, violence against lawmakers is wrong and his neighbor went to prison for 8 months,” continued Jost. “So, we should be allowed to punish the president who sent Mad Max to overthrow the government.”

Jost also suggested allowing Rand Paul to compete in a boxing match against YouTube celebrity Logan Paul.

“And so, no matter who loses, the American wins,” he concluded.
