Sarah Silverman responded to the reaction she received about jokes she made about Britney Spears in 2007.
Renewed attention was given to the pop star after the release of the documentary “The New York Times Presents: Framing Britney Spears”. The documentary, in which Spears did not participate, investigates the way the media treated her during her early days of fame, as well as her ongoing battle for guardianship with her father.
With greater scrutiny of those who came after Spears in the past, came a resurfaced clip of Silverman mocking the star during the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, the comedian made several jokes at the expense of the 25-year-old artist, after a lackluster performance of her song “Gimme More” at the same event.

“She is 25 years old and has already achieved everything she will accomplish in life,” joked Silverman at the time. “It’s mind-blowing. And she’s so grown up. She’s a mother, you know? It’s crazy. It’s weird to think that just a few years ago on this same show, she was this, like, sweet, innocent little girl in slutty clothes walking around. with a python. “

Silverman went on to say that Spears ‘two children were “the cutest mistakes” and made jokes about Spears’ vagina.

Shortly after a Twiter user reappeared, Silverman took to Twitter to explain himself.
“I was known at the time for 4 baked goods. MTV asked me to make a Britney mini roast after her big performance,” she wrote. “While she was performing, I was having diarrhea and going over my jokes. I had no idea she didn’t kill. Unfortunately. Art changes over the years as we know more and the world changes.”

The star then went after the person who shared the now viral clip, writing, “I wish I could delete it, but I can’t. But you’re posting for people to see. So, are you trying to be kind or right?”

Silverman is not the only celebrity to be criticized for past behavior around Spears that many now consider inappropriate. Diane Sawyer received calls to apologize to the pop star earlier this week, after the documentary “Framing Britney Spears” focused on a 2003 interview with him, the interviewer criticized Spears for his break up with Justin Timberlake.
