Sarah Silverman apologizes to Paris Hilton after mocking her mercilessly in 2007

Earlier this week, Nicky Hilton demanded that comedian Sarah Silverman apologize to her sister Paris for verbally eviscerating her at the 2007 MTV Awards, while Paris sat in the audience trying not to cry.

Silverman, 50, responded by issuing a long mea culpa to the socialite in the last episode of the Sarah Silverman Podcast, where she admitted that she ‘would never make those jokes today’.

Paris revealed on its own, on the This Is Paris podcast on Monday, that it is still angry at the comedian calling his jokes ‘disgusting, cruel and petty’.

“You know, as she said on the podcast, that would never happen today and she’s right, I don’t. I would never make these jokes today, ‘Silverman started.

“I came at a time when talk show hosts and comedians hired to make fun of pop culture were crushing the biggest celebrities and pop culture icons of the time and no one was bigger than Paris Hilton,” she continued as an explanation.

“So here we are in an awake world and I am totally involved in this, it’s how we grew up, it’s how we change,” said Silverman before launching himself into a full apology to Paris.

“I am very willing to reflect on the past and my part in perpetuating really ugly things,” she said. ‘And yes, we can continue to litigate the past, but I believe that perhaps this should be combined with consideration for any growth that has emerged over the years.’

As a reminder, Paris was supposed to enter prison hours after the 2007 awards ceremony for violating her probation in a case of reckless driving related to alcohol and was ridiculed by Sarah during the show while sitting in the crowd.

Silverman recalled: ‘While I was thrilled with the success of my monologue, I remember seeing her in the audience, really, and I remember seeing that expression on her face and my heart sank. There was a person down there. A few days later, I wrote a letter apologizing, I felt terrible and I never got an answer again, I certainly wouldn’t expect it anyway. ‘

Ultimately, Hilton never received the apology letter and held a great deal of resentment for the cruel and insensitive jokes of comics for more than a decade.

‘I regretted the jokes not years later, but kind of immediately,’ she admitted. ‘Here I am, 14 years later, telling you, Paris, that I am really sorry. I was then and I am, much more completely and with much more understanding, I think, now. ‘

– I can’t imagine what you were going through at the time. My understanding of humanity through the lens of my work as a comedian had not yet merged and I’m sorry for hurting you. Comedy is not perennial. We cannot change the past, so what is crucial is that we change over time. ‘

She added: ‘I felt it the second I saw your face that night. It is terrible to know that you have hurt someone and it is important to fix that. I hope that happens. ‘

During his podcast this week, Hilton revealed that at the time she was nervous about going to the event, so when she was the target of Silverman’s jokes, it was intolerable.

Detailing his version of the events, Paris said: ‘I was very shocked and surprised because I had met her a few years earlier at an event and she was sweet.

‘I was obviously very nervous and I knew I was about to enter a prison a few hours later, I made a brave face and she literally punched me, so mean and so cruel.

‘I was sitting there, wanting to die, I was holding back tears, there were tears in my eyes … I literally wanted to run out of the whole room. The whole audience was laughing and she wouldn’t stop.

‘It was very painful, especially with what I was going through in my life, it was very difficult.’

Sarah had said. ‘I heard that for her to feel more comfortable in prison the guards are going to paint the bars to look like a penis, I’m just afraid that she will break her teeth with these things.

Paris served three days of his 45-day prison sentence.

Nicky said, ‘Mom always told us that you don’t know anyone until you’ve walked a mile and she’s here … Sarah was saying the most disgusting, vile and terribly painful things.’

“It’s an abuse,” added Paris of what Sarah did.

Nicky said that because Sarah apologized to Britney after she beat her, she now needs to apologize to Paris.

‘The sexual and disgusting remarks were so horrible, very, very, very disappointing, that they should never happen to a young woman sitting in the audience or to anyone else, you must not allow a person to be humiliated.’
