After a brutal start to the 2021 campaign, Jeff Skinner is a healthy scratch for the Buffalo Sabers Monday night contest against the New York Islanders.
Advance Casey Mittelstadt will replace Skinner in the Saber squad.
Sabers coach Ralph Krueger informed the media about his scrambled lineup just a few hours before the record fell, confirming his decision to move forward with threats to play the $ 72 million forward after Skinner’s sad start to the season. .
“I just think it’s good for Jeff to take a look once from the outside and we have active coaches with him, working together to make him come back as an even stronger player,” Krueger told a group of media members on Zoom on the night of Monday afternoon.
The Sabers were nothing short of a disaster this season and Skinner was right for the ride.
Skinner evaluating Jack Eichel rumors
After leading Sabers during the 2018-19 season, posting personal career records of 40 goals and 63 points, Skinners’ production has plummeted since signing an eight-year, $ 72 million deal with the club. In 59 games last season, Skinner scored just 14 goals and 23 points.
This year, Skinner has only managed to get a single assist in 14 games, while seeing his TOI drop to less than 14 minutes – almost five minutes less per game than two seasons ago.
The Sabers, in full scramble mode, are trying almost anything now, while working in the basement of the eastern division of the NHL, right behind a playoff spot again. To aggravate his place at the bottom of the standings, there is a resurgence of rumors that Jack Eichel wants to leave Buffalo. Considering everything else, could you blame him?
