RuPaul (surname Charles) had known Ari since 2002 and posted the one-year-old conversation on his podcast, A Kiki From the Cancer Ward.
In 2007, Gold played Tyrone Cohen in Mike Ruiz’s cult comedy, Starrbooty, which starred RuPaul’s Drag Race host in the lead role.
The Bronx native is best known for his 2007 track, Where the Music Takes You, which topped the Billboard Hot Dance / Electronic Songs Chart Top 10.
Ari sang with Diana Ross and Cyndi Lauper, collaborated with Boy George and opened for Chaka Khan.

Daytime Emmy winner Laverne Cox shared a montage in honor of the NYU graduate, whom she has known since the 1990s.
“So many people have come and gone from my life in the past 25 years, but you have been a constant,” wrote the 48-year-old transgender pioneer on Instagram.
‘As I grew and evolved, you evolved with me. The spiritual journey we were on both made it clear why we stayed in each other’s lives for so long. I’m so devastated that you changed today.
