The new series is switching from Klasky Csupó’s original 2D animation to CG and returns the cast to their original baby / toddler point of view. The series will debut on Paramount Plus, Paramount’s new streaming service, sometime this spring after the release of Plus on March 4.

12 canceled TV shows that we would love to see revived

“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the world, and this original version is one that we’re taking great care and pride in creating for a new audience,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Nickelodeon Animation. “Having the voice of the cast behind these special characters is one of the essential pieces to make the series recognizable and we can’t wait to see this talented group bring them back to life.”

The new series is being led by Rugrats’ family leadership, including executive producers Eryk Casemiro and Kate Boutilier, Rachel Lipman as a co-producer, and Kellie Smith (The Fairly Oddparents) as a producer.

Rugrats originally debuted in 1991, generating an empire of three theatrical films, nine seasons on TV, four Daytime Emmy awards and countless pieces of merchandise, including 27 video games.

It’s a busy week for Paramount Plus, which is also hosting high-profile films like Mission Impossible 7, A Quiet Place Part 2, a new division dedicated to Avatar properties: The Last Airbender and more.
