Rudy Giuliani says ‘trial by combat’ just ‘Game of Thrones quote’

Rudy Giuliani said he was just quoting ‘Game of Thrones’ when he shouted to the crowd at the ‘Save America’ rally last Wednesday, ‘let’s have a combat trial!’ before the members invaded the Capitol.

“I am willing to bet my reputation, the president is willing to bet his reputation that we will find crime there,” said Giuliani at the rally that started the Capitol riot. – Joe Biden is willing to bet his reputation that there is no crime there? Not.’

In an interview with The Hill newspaper, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer explained that he was referring to the ‘type of judgment that Tyrion had in that famous documentary about fictional medieval England’.

‘When Tyrion, who is a very small man, is accused of murder. He did not commit murder, he cannot defend himself and he hires a champion to defend him, ‘said Giuliani.

Giuliani was referring to Tyrion Lannister – the character played by actor Peter Dinklage – and an incident that happened to him in the first season of the HBO hit show.

‘Game of Thrones’ is a totally fictional series based on books by fantasy writer George RR Martin.

In the specific episode that Giuliani probably referred to, Lannister was falsely accused of murdering one character, Jon Arryn, and of plotting to kill another, Bran Stark.

“I demand a trial by combat,” said Lannister when Arryn’s widow, Lysa, tried to throw him back into his ‘sky cell’ dungeon.

She chooses Ser Vardis Egen to fight in his honor, while Lannister receives help from Bronn, a knight he met at an inn on his journey.

In his interview with The Hill, Giuliani tried to push the idea that the suggestion of ‘trial by combat’ was non-violent.

On the show, Egen and Bronn fight. Bronn cuts Egen’s throat. And then Bronn throws Egen through a ‘lunar door’, a hole in the ground that sends the knight to his death if the neck injury is not done.

In a later episode of ‘Game of Thrones’, when Lanniser is involved in yet another attempt at combat, a character nicknamed ‘The Mountain’ wins the challenge by crushing Oberyn Martell’s skull, played by ‘Mandalorian’ star Pedro Pascal .

Giuliani told The Hill that at the rally he was asking for a ‘cross-machine test’ – essentially a call for Dominion’s ‘crooked’ voting machines to be examined.

For The Hill, he explained: ‘I challenge you to allow us to examine your machines. And then I say that the consequences of the trial in combat will be, if they prove them wrong, we will be extremely ashamed and unhappy.

“If we prove that they are wrong, they will go to jail,” added Giuliani.

Election officials, including in states like Georgia, where top officials are Republicans, consider the allegations that Dominion machines change absurd ballots.

Dominion sued another Trump-associated lawyer, Sidney Powell, for defamation over ‘wild accusations’ she made about the company.

The former mayor of New York City said again that he explained ‘trial by combat’ in the ‘appropriate context’.

‘It did not incite any violent response from the crowd,’ he insisted. ‘None. The crowd did not jump saying, “Lock him up, throw him in prison, go to hell.” I’ve heard lectures where people jumped up and said, “Arrest him”. It was not emotional. It was not a part of the speech that inspired emotion. ‘

“So trying to take it out of context and use it is typical of the devious left and press,” argued Giuliani.

The former mayor of New York, however, faces his own difficulties with his client.

Trump expressed disappointment with some of Giuliani’s legal moves to challenge the election results and did not appreciate his demand for $ 20,000 a day in the failed attempt, two officials told the Washington Post.

Officials said the president is also demanding personal approval of all expenses incurred by Giuliani in his multi-state legal campaign to prove electoral fraud, which quickly failed in court.

Deprived of his ability to expose his complaints on Twitter when the House voted against him a second time on Wednesday, Trump is said by insiders to be wallowing in “self-pity” and furious that his allies – including Giuliani – are not defending it publicly.

“The president is very tense,” a senior administration official told the Post. ‘No one is out there’ to defend him, he added.

While the House debated impeachment on Wednesday, Trump’s press secretary did not mount a public defense, his advisers did not disclose any points of discussion and there was little effort to get Republican votes against the impeachment pressure from Democrats.

Among Trump’s inner circle, it is said that there is little appetite to defend the president for his actions on January 6, when he led his rally to frenzy and told them to march on the Capitol.

“I have been informed from sources close to the White House that the president is feeling sorry for himself, that he is increasingly isolated within the White House,” CNN senior correspondent in Washington, Pamela Brown said.

“The president, for his part, believes – he is upset that no one is defending him,” she added.

“Even those who defended the president fiercely all these years are saying in private that no one else has brought him here but himself, the reason he was accused twice was his and nobody else’s fault,” said Brown.

Amid the tension, Trump’s relationship with Giuliani may be fragmenting – although the president’s lawyer is one of the few who vigorously defended him in public, insisting that Trump’s actions were not an incitement.

Giuliani has been a key legal advisor to Trump in his election challenge, after leading a personal crusade to uncover potential dirt on Joe Biden and his son Hunter in Ukraine.

The former New York mayor’s legal charge of contesting the election took bizarre turns at times, like the notorious press conference held in the parking lot of Four Seasons Total Landscaping, outside Philadelphia.

This led to speculation that the venue had been booked by mistake in the belief that it was the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia in Center City, although the incident was never fully explained.

In another press conference at the National Republican Committee in Washington DC, an agitated and sweaty Giuliani appeared to be melting live on TV, with some kind of hair dye running down the side of his face.
