New York State Representative Ron Kim – who said Governor Andrew Cuomo threatened to ruin his career by speaking out against inadequate handling of the nursing home crisis during the coronavirus pandemic – says he will no longer support the governor politically.

Kim, a Democrat who is also chairman of the state’s Standing Committee on Aging, accused Cuomo of “abusing his power” in trying to pressure lawmakers to support his advisor’s admissions that the government intentionally withheld data on deaths in nursing homes Department of Justice (DOJ) investigators.
Melissa DeRosa, the governor’s secretary, made the surprising revelation during Zoom’s call with state lawmakers earlier this month.

The focus on Cuomo comes when liberal CNN and the governor’s brother, host Chris Cuomo, give Democrat controversies little or no airtime. The network previously gave Chris Cuomo a free rein to conduct friendly, comical interviews with the governor, who wrote a book on how to deal with the pandemic in the middle of the pandemic.
Kim said Andrew Cuomo called him and threatened him if he “didn’t make a statement that he could use to cover up his aide.”
Kim said that a threatening Andrew Cuomo asked him, “Who do you think you are?”
“Well, I am the chairman of the Aging Committee in the New York State Assembly. It is my job to protect older adults. I shouldn’t be threatened for doing my job. And that is exactly what is happening here,” he said. Kim to host Neil Cavuto.
“I believe that his aide accidentally told the truth of the cover-up that they purposely withheld information from the Justice Department about life or death, for fear that the information could be used as a weapon against them. Now there is a web of lies and excuses for that they were unable to provide information. But sooner or later, the truth will come out. And that’s what’s happening now, “he added.

Kim is one of more than a dozen Democratic lawmakers in New York who are pressing Andrew Cuomo to be stripped of the executive powers he was given during the pandemic. Others also call for Cuomo to resign or be impeached.
Andrew Cuomo has been criticized in recent months and is the center of several investigations, focusing on a March guideline that instructed nursing homes to accept patients with COVID-19 in an effort to decrease the space for hospital beds. The order resulted in more than 1,000 deaths, according to a study by a surveillance group based in Albany.

“I told the government, including at the private meeting, that there have been a number of policies that you have erred in the past 10 months,” said Kim. “You need to confess your mistakes, issue a public apology, create a victim compensation fund for families who have lost loved ones, revoke that stupid legal immunity that gave the worst nursing homes a freedom card to get out of prison and a series of different policies that we must work on to fix what you did. But they are not interested. They are not interested in fixing them. “
