“Why are you not supporting President Trump?” a woman taping the senator says after walking up to Romney while he is waiting at the airport terminal gate.

The Utah senator asked the woman to put on her mask, reminding her that this is mandatory by law, before starting an argument with her.

“I am supporting him,” replied Romney, adding that he supported many of the things that Trump did while in office.

The woman asks if he will support Trump “in the fraudulent polls”, referring to the Congressional count of the Electoral College vote scheduled for Wednesday in Washington, to which Romney replies, “No, I’m not.”

“It is a long story, but we have a Constitution and the constitutional process is clear, and I will follow the Constitution and then explain it all when we meet in Congress,” Romney told the woman.

The woman then presses Romney about her lack of support for Trump in the 2020 election and tells the Republican “you work for us”.

“I work for the people of Utah,” he replies before gathering his belongings and trying to get away from the woman who, along with another Trump supporter, continues to follow him.

A man, who was also recording Romney, scolded him as he tried to leave, saying, “You are a joke.”

A subsequent video shared by another Twitter user on the flight from Salt Lake to DC the same day shows Trump supporters yelling at Romney while on board the plane.

In the video, passengers sing “Traitor!” for several seconds while several of them hold their phones to record the interaction. A person yells at Romney to resign.

Some passengers can be seen without masks in the video.

Trump claimed, without evidence, that widespread electoral fraud led to his loss and falsely claimed that Vice President Pence, in presiding over Congressional proceedings on Wednesday, could invalidate or delay the certification of Electoral College votes.

Romney said he would vote to certify Biden’s victory and called the president’s allegations of electoral fraud “reckless”.

Trump “is wrong to say that the election was rigged, corrupt and stolen,” Romney said in November, saying that his contestation of the election result “harms the cause of freedom here and around the world … and recklessly ignites destructive and dangerous passions. ”

Several Republican senators said they would also challenge the outcome of the election, a move that would generate hours of debate in both chambers of Congress before votes can be certified.

Thousands of people are expected to gather for Trump in Washington, DC, while Congress debates certification. Romney’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
