Rochester Body-Cam images show Cop Told Pepper-Sprayed Black Girl, 9, ‘You Did It to Yourself, Hon’

New video released in Rochester, New York, shows a 9-year-old black girl waiting in agony handcuffed for 16 minutes in the back seat of a police car after being sprayed with pepper spray by the police. City officials suspended police officers who were seen in an initial video released on Sunday, spraying the face of the disturbed and handcuffed child. In the footage of the newly launched body camera, the girl can be heard crying and asking for her father while a white police officer tells her that an ambulance has been delayed because of snow on the roads. “Policeman, please don’t do this to me,” she says at one point. “You did this to yourself, dear,” replies the policeman. The girl’s mother called the police during an argument with her husband, but asked the police to call mental health services when it became clear that her fourth-grade daughter was about to collapse. A previously released video shows police officers screaming at the girl, saying they are losing patience as they struggle in the snow to put her in the back of a police vehicle.
