Robert Saleh is the first finalist for the Jets head coaching job

The Jets focused on their first finalist.

The team is bringing in 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh for a second interview on Tuesday, according to the NFL network. The Jets talked to Saleh virtually on Friday. Now, he will meet the chiefs of the Jets personally in Florham Park, while the team narrows his search.

The Jets have interviewed nine candidates so far. They are now entering the next phase, where they will bring some finalists for personal meetings. They can’t do personal interviews with anyone in the playoffs yet: Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley, Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn and Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy are all candidates with games this weekend.

Saleh, 41, is a popular coach in this hiring cycle. He interviewed Lions, Jaguars, Falcons and Chargers in addition to the Jets. He is seen by some as one of the top contenders in Detroit.
