COUNTY DE RICHMOND (WFXG) – The Richmond County sheriff’s office says it wants you to know about a post that is circulating on social media.

The sheriff’s office says the message stated that a deputy from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office in Columbia, South Carolina, told a family that a group of white supremacists planned to attack African American women on the day of their inauguration.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says this message actually refers to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. They keep telling FOX 54 that there is no credible threat to the Augusta area. They are also unaware of any credible threats to Richland County.

After contacting Richland County Sheriff’s Department, they told us that the post originated in Lexington, South Carolina, and that it has been circulating online for days.

“Last night, a deputy working for RCSD told the family that local supremacy / KKK members from Lexington are planning to attack from now until the inauguration. They are plotting against blacks, especially black women, because in their eyes we are easy targets! please stay tuned! try not to do anything alone, especially after dark! this is not a joke or a rumor! he showed the paperwork the police department has! in his words … they are taking over your country bk! It’s really scary, please take what I’m telling you SERIOUSLY! We have to continue to live, but be careful and watch what’s around you! Pass this on to others! “
