Republicans will use the increased migrant border to blame Biden

Republican strategist Mike Murphy predicted that the increase in the southern border and the unprecedented number of children in US custody will become a political tool for the Republican Party to rally its base against the Biden government – and to divert attention from the former’s failings. President Trump in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“There are people inside the Republican Party saying, ‘Look, we can change the topic of the debate over Biden’s action on coronavirus … compared to Trump’s failures, to the border disaster,” Murphy said on Wednesday. “This is our score, which means that the debate goes our way.”

The Biden government has defended how it is dealing with the situation on the Mexican border. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas attributed the poor state of the U.S. immigration system to the policies of the Trump administration.

Murphy told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” that he could see Trump “turning on the foghorn on the right and starting the political prosecution machine”.

Murphy, a political analyst at NBC News, said he thinks there is too much political fear within the Republican Party to move forward on the path of citizenship.

He said that Republicans are unlikely to pass laws in part because of “Donald Trump’s shadow and the vengeful candidates for Trump’s primaries who come after you in the Republican primaries.”

The White House was not immediately available for comment.
