Actress Reese Witherspoon paid tribute to her Election co-star Jessica Campbell, who recently passed away at age 38. The 1999 dramatic comedy was a scathing satire of both American politics and high school life. Starring Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, an ambitious young student aiming to be elected president of the student body. The film also starred Matthew Broderick as Tracy’s unfortunate teacher Jim McAllister, who encourages popular athlete Paul Metzler (Chris Klein) to compete against her. At the same time, Paul’s sister Tammy, played by Campbell, comes in as a spoiler candidate, intending to prove how stupid the whole process is, promising to do nothing as president of the student body.

The film was a box office bomb, thanks in part to its misleading marketing campaign, which made it look like a American Pieteen sex comedy style. However, it was hailed by critics for its sharp satire, and the script was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also won at the Independent Spirit Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Screenplay. Witherspoon and Campbell were also nominated for Best Lead Actress and Best Debut Performance, respectively. However, Campbell’s acting career was short when she retired from the profession after her role in 2002 garbage. His death on December 29 last year was announced on Wednesday.
Witherspoon shared the sad news of Campbell’s death via Twitter on Wednesday and took the opportunity to pay tribute to the former actress. Besides Election, Campbell was best known for appearing in two episodes of the short cult series Freaks and Geeks, who launched the careers of Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen, James Franco and How I met your mother star, Jason Segel. After his retirement, Campbell allegedly started natural healing, becoming a naturopathic healer. She leaves a husband and a small son. His family reported his death, which did not list any causes, but said it was sudden and unexpected.
