Recap of ‘The Bachelor’ Season 25, Episode 2: Victoria Steals Spotlight

The bachelorThe opening of last week’s 25th Season included many deep and meaningful examinations of racial and cultural expectations – and producers promptly and easily dismissed them in Week 2. Mentions of Matt James as the first black bachelor became irrelevant on Monday night to establish the main candidates for the love of the commercial realtor and solidify Victoria as the villain of this season. And we can speak about Victoria for a minute?

Matt, 28, certainly sees through the farce of this self-proclaimed “Queen”. Of course, Matt didn’t witness firsthand how Victoria pouted when he selected Bri, 24, for his first one-on-one encounter (more on that later), or how Victoria clashed head-on with Jessenia, 27, after proclaiming it loud and hateful your jealousy of Bri. But he did see how Victoria, 27, forced her way to a wedding photo with him during the group meeting. And that kiss she planted on him bordered on aggression. Victoria was also visibly upset when Matt later gave the group’s meeting rose to Lauren, the 29-year-old Miami corporate lawyer who shares Matt’s love for the Lord.

How could Matt have lost Victoria’s eyes and eyes? But he must have done that, because when she approached him at the cocktail party the next night, he believed her hyperbolic claims that Marylynn is a “toxic manipulator” that is intimidating her. Of course, these admissions arrived conveniently after Matt gave Marylynn, 28, his favorite orchids as a gesture of love, but Matt didn’t seem to notice the timing of that either.

For a guy who is astute enough to memorize a woman’s favorite flower and realize that Sarah, 24, had a family problem that weighed heavily on her during her other one-on-one encounter, he sure misses a lot. Which It’s that, producers? Is Matt sensitive and intuitive … or selectively? Victoria is undoubtedly a plant, but it would be nice if her “role” on the show was not so boring. When Victoria ruined the cocktail vibe, the whole vibe of episode was spotted and Sarah passed out from stress, disrupting Matt’s ability to send Victoria or Marylynn home or both.

Matt’s best moment
That said, Matt had some fun high notes to watch. This includes sliding into not one, but two hot tubs with two very different, but very promising competitors. The first romantic bath arrived during his first meeting with Bri. The two got dirty and flirted on an ATV and then ended the muddy ride by jumping into a wood-burning hot tub. Of course, because he needed energy for firewood, Matt took off his shirt (fainting) so that he could cut a log in half. Hmm. Is that whole hot tub powered by two small slabs of wood? IT’S OK. Anything for one more of Matt’s shirtless moments, we think. Oh, and lots of kisses in the bathtub happened.

The two ended the meeting with an intimate dinner where Bri talked about the difficulty of growing up without his father taking an active role in his life, something that Matt says he knows very well. They kissed at dinner and kissed some more at a fireworks show for two. Well, the other women could see the fireworks too, but they couldn’t stay with Matt while watching, as Bri did.

The second memorable exchange took place during Matt’s meeting with Sarah. First, the two enjoyed a breathtaking aerial view of the Pennsylvania forest from the front seat of a biplane and then had a romantic picnic. As Matt spoke, he felt that there was something Sarah was not telling him about his father. So Sarah decided, without provocation, to tell Matt about her father’s painful battle with ALS over dinner. A relieved Matt thanked Sarah for her honesty and vulnerability and the two kissed and ended the night in an old-fashioned hot tub without firewood.

Matt’s worst moments
Matt’s fall into Victoria’s web of lies was definitely a low point for the North Carolina native. But his kiss with Lauren with his eyes open looked scary. Close your eyes, Matt. Make us believe that you like this woman.

Moment of this week’s train crash
Whatever the game at the group meeting, take the cake to the most banal moment of the show. Was it supposed to be football with a wet paint fight and a cake launch? All this while in wedding dresses… ?? Sigh. That was too much.

Fall in hen parties
This is a difficult one. It is tempting to keep evicting Victoria because she is terrible. That said, it looks like Matt forgot about Khaylah, 28, his girlfriend in North Carolina. The health advocate shared a romantic break in the back of a pickup truck in week 1, but did not spend any time alone with Matt during week 2.

What did you think of week 2 and the progress of Matt’s connections?
