White House press secretary Jen Psaki appeared to sidestep President Biden’s previous comments on Major League Baseball on Monday to withdraw his Georgia All-Star game.
Last week, before the MLB said it would come out in response to the state’s voting law, Biden said he would “strongly support” baseball players who are pushing to change the game.
“I think today’s professional athletes are acting incredibly responsible. I would support them strongly in this,” Biden told ESPN last week. “People look at them. They are leaders. The same people who are most victimized are the leaders of these various sports.”

ESPN’s Sage Steele referred to Tony Clark, executive director of the MLB Players Association, saying he was looking forward to withdrawing the Atlanta All-Star game because of the law. “So, Mr. President, what do you think about the possibility of baseball deciding to take its All-Star game out of Atlanta because of this political issue?”
During Monday’s press conference, Psaki echoed Biden’s words, but framed them as he supported the league’s ability to make its own decisions. “Well, he supports them in being able to make decisions and respond to their players’ requests, as many of them are impacted, of course, by these laws,” she said.
She later told Fox News’ Peter Doocy that the context of the ESPN question was “around the league meeting to discuss this exact issue.”

Doocy asked if Biden would support the withdrawal of the Georgia Masters Tournament if players from the Professional Golf Association (PGA) recovered.
“I’m sure you’re going to ask me this question or him this question,” replied Psaki, “but our focus is on doing what we can to make voting easier and more accessible across the country, and that’s what it’s for. that our efforts are going to be from the White House. “
