PS4 8.50 Beta firmware update invites to be sent by Sony

PS4 firmware update 8.50 PlayStation 4 1

Check your emails: you can have an invitation to the next big PlayStation 4 beta. According to MP1st, Sony is sending codes for a system software update planned to be released publicly sometime in the spring. With the PS5 now available, this is less complete than previous PS4 firmware updates – although it does include some worthwhile quality of life adjustments.

For example, you can now turn off message notifications for groups you are a member of and request to join friends’ games. In addition, if you “hid” a game from your profile, your friends will no longer be able to see that you are playing. This is something we could have done at the beginning of the generation, to be honest, since some review embargoes stipulate that we must appear offline.

Perhaps the biggest change is the removal of the Communities feature, which is being deprecated. There are no changes to the controversial new Party system, although Sony admitted it was exploring improvements after some robust comments last year. Did you receive a beta invitation? Are you going to try it? Let us know in the comments section below.
