Promising young woman, Borat 2 wins at the 2021 WGA Awards

The award season continued at a brisk pace on Sunday with the first bicastal Writers’ Guild Awards, presented by the newly coined WGA member Kal Penn. “I am very proud to host the first WGA ceremony being presented jointly by Writers ‘Guild East and Writers’ Guild West,” he said in his monologue. “We combined the two shows, because, despite all of our differences, the only thing we can agree on is: the world doesn’t need another extra award. So, instead of having multiple programs, we just thought it would be more efficient to combine them into one. Who said we are against packaging? “

As for the night’s prizes, Emerald Fennell’s Promising young woman received the Original Screenplay award, while Borat Subsequent MoviefilmSacha Baron Cohen and his many collaborators received the same for Adapted Script. In the television categories, Ted Lasso took home Best Comedy Series and Best New Series, while this year’s Drama Series Award went to The crown.
