Princess Eugenie was named after her son Prince Philp and the distant royal grandfather

Princess Eugenie is keeping her grandfather’s name alive with her newborn son, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

British 30-year-old royalty shared her son’s name with the public in an Instagram post 11 days after his birth.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are filled with love for this little human, words cannot express,” says Eugenie’s caption next to three recent photos of her and her husband Jack Brooksbank adoring their new son.

The Royal Family’s social media accounts wasted no time sharing the good news.

“Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank announced that they named their son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank,” tweeted the Royal Family on Saturday, February 20. “The couple was touched by the good wishes they received at the birth of their first child, and we are pleased to share this first photo with the family.”

August, who was born on February 9, was initially 11th in line to the throne, but was pushed to 12th place after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they are expecting a second child last week.

Despite the adjustment to the line of succession, the son of Princess Eugenie maintains the namesake of her grandfather, Prince Philip, and of her fourth great-grandfather, Prince Albert Augustus Charles Emmanuel de Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861).

Her son’s name also honors her husband’s distant great-grandfather, Reverend Edward Hawke Brooksbank, according to an Instagram story she shared.

The late August introduction to the world comes days after the news that Princess Eugenie gave birth to her son by cesarean section due to complications from the scoliosis surgery she had done in her youth.

A source told People magazine that the young royalty and the new mother are “doing great” on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 99-year-old Prince Philip was hospitalized on Tuesday night as a “precautionary measure” after he fell ill with an unspecified illness, according to a palace statement.

Princess Eugenie and her family are living in Frogmore Cottage, the renovated house that briefly belonged to Prince Harry and Meghan.

In addition, news of Princess Eugenie comes a day after Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that Prince Harry and Meghan are “moving away from the work of the royal family”.

“The honorary military appointments and royal sponsorships held by the Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to His Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of the Royal Family,” says the statement. “While everyone is saddened by their decision, the Duke and Duchess are still very dear members of the family.”
