Prince Harry and Meghan to be covered by Prince Charles in a lean monarchy | Royal | News

Prince Charles, 71, is second in line to the throne and the oldest of royalty waiting to reign. The Duke of Cornwall is believed to have planned to reduce the number of active members of the royal family to optimize the number of tasks performed and costs. But despite a smaller family, Harry and his family will still be an “important part of it”, according to royal expert Rebecca English.

Speaking to Palace Confidential on MailPlus, she said: “It’s history, George V established some rules and regulations that basically said that the only family with the direct heir to the throne transmitted by the male lineage would have the right to be HRH’s and Prince and Princesses.

“The simple fact is that, as Harry’s son, Archie had no right to be an HRH or Prince when he was born, unless they asked the Queen to issue patent letters to make a point of making him one.

“I must say that, at the time, we were told very strongly, as journalists, by the people employed by Sussex that they were fine with that.

“They wanted Archie to become the master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and be able to live a life, if he wanted, like Zara and Peter Phillips and not be confused with security issues.”

Mrs English added: “Meghan saying very clearly, the only reason she wanted him to be a prince was that he came with a level of security and that would keep my son safe.

“But the point that was put to me is like the seventh in line to the throne, he would always be entitled to security as a member of the Royal Family – that was not a problem.

“Even if the Prince of Wales wants a lean monarchy in the future, Harry and his family have always been an important part of that.

“He would always have been protected within the limits of the Royal Family, so people cannot understand why this is being said now.”

“It is not their right to remove it,” she added.

Oprah Winfrey asked in the television story, “Do you think it’s because of his race? I know it’s a loaded question.”

Meghan replied: “In those months when I was pregnant, almost at the same time, then we (had) the conversation that he would not be safe, he would not have a title.

“And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin can be when he is born.”
