Prince Charles ‘saddened’ by the low acceptance of the vaccine in ethnic minorities when entering the campaign | Royal | News

The Prince of Wales will speak at an online seminar organized by the British Asian Trust, of which he is the founding patron. The heir to the throne tested positive for Covid last March and months later said he “got away with it”.

Last week, Clarence House announced that Charles, 72, and Camilla, 73, had received their first doses of the vaccine.

Both are in their 70s or older and are being asked to come forward to be inoculated.

More than 14.5 million people in the UK received the first dose of the jab, according to government statistics.

But there is a big difference between the number of white people being vaccinated compared to their ethnic minority counterparts.

And experts believe the myths are fueling skepticism about vaccines among minorities, which absorb half of whites.

This has raised concerns that the most diverse cities in the UK will take longer to emerge from the blockades than the rest of the country.

There are also fears that far-right activists may use the disparity to increase racial tensions.

On Thursday, Charles will join a campaign to dispel the propaganda, alongside vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi.

Charles has a good relationship with ethnic minorities and is highly respected, especially by the older generation.

He told guests at Thursday’s seminar that he was “saddened” by the slowness of ethnic minorities in presenting vaccines.

The prince will tell participants that the UK “has reached a very worrying milestone with the deaths of 100,000 people.

He will say: “It is clear that the virus has affected all parts of the country and all sectors of society – but it is also clear that there are specific challenges faced in specific sectors of our society, especially in some ethnic minority communities.

“What saddens me even more is knowing that these challenges are becoming even worse with the variable intake of vaccines, which finally offer us a way out of last year’s suffering.”

The event will be broadcast live on various Muslim television channels in an attempt to reach some of the 2.5 million followers of Islam in the UK.

Other participants include the head of India’s Serum Institute, which mass-produced the Oxford / AstraZeneca jab.

Senior black and Asian doctors will also make appearances.

On Saturday, the death toll in Covid in the UK increased by 621 and another 13,308 infections were reported.
