Prince Charles in ‘state of despair’ after Harry’s interview

Prince Charles returned to public office on Tuesday morning – despite reports that his son’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey left him in a “state of despair”.

The 72-year-old heir to the throne visited a National Health Service’s COVID-19 vaccine pop-up clinic in London – the morning after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were revealed in the UK.

Charles seemed in a good mood when thanking the helpers, Sky News said – but declined to comment on the interview when pressured by reporters.

Charles was the target of some of his son’s most personal attacks, with Harry saying he felt “really disappointed” by his father, but hoped the two could one day “heal this relationship”.

One of Charles’s friends told Vanity Fair that the interview – which aired for the first time in the United States on Sunday – left him in a “state of despair”.

“For Prince Harry to say he was disappointed in his father, it must have been a difficult thing to say and difficult for Charles to hear,” royal author Sarah Gristwood told the magazine.

“Now, just at the moment when in general Charles started to appear to be a more popular king than one could imagine, here is a big blow to his reputation. That your son was disappointed by him, ”she said.

“It is difficult to know whether Harry is aware of the damage this has caused. Did he really intend to shed that damaging light on his father and his family? We do not know. “

The royal family reportedly talked about the crisis during the interview, but did not yet comment on the matter when Charles appeared on Tuesday.
