Popeyes is offering free chicken sandwiches now as a Jab at McDonald’s

In case you missed it, McDonald’s is finally joining the fast food chicken sandwich war next week. To celebrate the big debut, the fast food chain with a golden bow is selling a limited edition with early access to the sandwich on Thursday. Of course, you didn’t think Popeyes would let the occasion go by without a little shadow, did you?

The Louisiana-style fried chicken chain is teasing McDonald’s, offering free chicken sandwiches on the same day. Since McDonald’s is requiring fans to access its website (chkndrop.com) to get merchandise and early access, Popeyes is following a similar path – for anyone who misspells Mickey D’s URL slightly. If you accidentally, or purposely, access ckndrop.com on February 18, you can steal a Popeyes sandwich.

“The Popeyes team realized and found the 50 most likely ways to misspell the early access website and obtained these domains,” said a Popeyes representative in a statement. “So if someone looking for a new McDonald’s chicken sandwich misspells that URL, they can be redirected to the Popeyes website, where they will find a code for a free Popeyes chicken sandwich, if it’s one of the first 500 to be in error spelling on any of the 50 URLs. ”

Yes, unfortunately, Popeyes’ business is limited to the first 500 people who access the URL, so you need to be quick. With these types of gifts, you should always come in expecting them to run out.

The McDonald’s website went live at 12 pm Eastern Time and will remain active for a few hours, giving you the chance to choose sides. Or, here’s a crazy idea, do both. Maybe even test them side by side. After all, the launch of this McD’s took a long time to be made.
