Police investigate after pregnant woman killed in shooting in West Houston

HOUSTON – A 22-year-old pregnant woman was killed after a shooting in western Houston, according to Houston police.

HPD said a report of a shooting arrived at 12:37 pm near Wilcrest and Richmond Avenue.

“We are not sure if it is an altercation about what happened, but there was a report that the individuals may have been in contact before the shooting,” said Brian Evans of the Houston Homicide Division.

Authorities said the suspect followed the victim and fired on the car. The bullet went through the rear of the vehicle and hit the victim’s back.

“I don’t think he is aware that he hit someone inside the vehicle,” said Evans.

Police said the victim was pregnant. She and the baby died on the spot.

“Our understanding, (there was) an HPD officer here. They actually looked at the vehicle behind him. So, they were really here, I believe. They were returning to the police station when they heard the shots being fired. They approach the vehicle to assess whether she was responding in the vehicle, but as soon as a transport over her from outside the vehicle to the sidewalk there was no further response that she was pronounced dead there. “

KPRC 2 spoke to Loretta Romo, who said she was the victim’s grandmother.

“She was adorable. There are no words that you can explain to her because she is always laughing. She loved life, she was just beginning to enjoy it. She was becoming independent, ”said Romo.

Police said there were three other people in the car, including the victim’s boyfriend, a small child and another person. According to police, the child was the victim’s 1-year-old son.

Police said they are not calling the shooting an incident of violence on the road. They also said that the victim and the suspect did not know each other.

Police said they are beginning the process of removing surveillance cameras from the area.

Police said the suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored two-door coupe.
