Actress Marion Ramsey, best known for her role in “Police Academy” films, died on Thursday, her manager Roger Paul confirmed to CBS News. No cause of death was provided. She was 73 years old.
“Mrs. Ramsey’s infamous voice was emblematic; soft-spoken, unique and gentle, equally suited to her generous and golden spirit and humorous disposition,” Paul said in a statement. “His passion for performing and sharing his heart with the world was immense.”
Born in Philadelphia, Ramsey started showbiz on the illustrious Broadway stage. She was cast in the original “Hello Dolly” tour and original productions. After the 1974 show “Miss Moffat”, in which Ramsey starred alongside Bette Davis, Ramsey went on to star in several different productions, including “Eubie!” and “Grind”.
“Marion carried a generous, penetrating light that instantly filled a room when she arrived,” added Paul. “The darkening of its light is already felt by those who knew it well. We will miss you and always love you.”

Although his film and television career began with cameos on TV in “The Jeffersons” and “Cos”, Bill Cosby’s sketch show, Ramsey became known for the role of officer Laverne Hooks in the 1984 comedy “Police” Academy “. She played the role in all six films, ending with “Police Academy 6”.
The actress was a “staunch supporter” of AIDS advocacy, performing at fundraising events like “Divas Simply Singing”. She also lent her vocal talent to animation programs like “The Addams Family” and “Robot Chicken”.
Ramsey’s final role was in the 2018 independent film “When I Sing”. She left many fans, colleagues and her three brothers.
