Police Academy actress Marion Ramsey dead at 73

Marion Ramsey, star of the stage and screen, died. She was 73 years old.

Ramsey’s management team, Roger Paul Inc., confirmed the news in a statement obtained by Fox News.

The star passed away at his Los Angeles home on Thursday. The cause of death has not been determined, but she was recently ill, Deadline reported.

“Marion carried with it a generous and penetrating light that immediately filled a room after her arrival,” her management said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “The darkening of its light is already felt by those who knew it well. We will miss you and always love you.”

The actress is best known for playing Sgt. Laverne Hooks in the “Police Academy” films. She appeared in the first six films in the franchise, but was left out in the seventh installment and after the television spin-offs.

The star reprized the role – known for his high-pitched voice – in “John Virgo: Playing for Laughs” in 1993 and in a 2006 episode of “Robot Chicken”.

She most recently appeared in the 2018 film “When I Sing”.

Outside of Hollywood, Ramsey also had a long career on Broadway, making his debut as Ermengarde in “Hello, Dolly!”

She would appear in a number of other musicals and in a series of touring productions. Also of note, she played a role in the musical “Miss Moffat” alongside Bette Davis, who failed and never made it to Broadway.

Ramsey was born in Philadelphia, according to Deadline reports, and she won her first credited role in the form of a cameo in “The Jeffersons” in 1976, according to IMDb.

She has also appeared on other high-profile shows like “MacGyver”, “The Addams Family” and “The Nanny”.

Deadline reports that she was a passionate advocate for HIV / AIDS awareness.
