Pokémon player Sword and Shield shares loss of brilliant heart-breaking metagross

Shiny Pokémon are some of the most elusive creatures in the series, so losing the chance to have one as part of your collection can be devastating. Pokémon shield and sword Reddit player and user Cleffa-on-a-Laptop shared a video of a Max Raid battle in which they had a chance to catch a Shiny Metagross. In the video, the user can be seen deliberating among the Poke Ball options before choosing to use an Ultra Ball. Although it cannot be seen in the video, the user mentions in the topic that he actually had a Master Ball, but chose to save it. Unfortunately, that Ultra Ball was not enough to catch the creature, leading to a lost Shiny!

The Cleffa-on-a-Laptop video can be found embedded below.

I think my soul just died … (my pity for the horrible video quality.) From r / PokemonSwordAndShield

Introduced on Pokémon Gold and silver, Shiny Pokémon has become highly sought after since. There are fans who spend hundreds of hours looking for some of the most elusive Shiny Pokémon, so the prospect of missing one of those opportunities is horrible to say the least. What’s more, Metagross is often used by competitive players, so the creature could have been a valuable part of a team!

Unfortunately, it looks like it wasn’t meant to be for Cleffa-on-a-Laptop! Perhaps their video serves as a cautionary tale (not to be confused with a Clefairy tale) about the need to use Master Balls a little more carefully. Master Balls were introduced with Red and green Pokémon, and most entries in the series allow players to get only one during the game; they also have a 100% capture rate. As such, some players tend to accumulate them, waiting for the perfect opportunity. If the Reddit user had just chosen to use that Master Ball in his inventory, he could have a new team member, as opposed to regretting a missed chance. Pokémon fans, don’t let the same thing happen to you!
