Phillies agrees to negotiate with free agent Archie Bradley

The Phillies reached a one-year, $ 6 million deal with free agent Archie Bradley, the sources confirmed. The business is awaiting a physical examination.

Bradley, a 28-year-old right-hand man, began his career as a starter with the Diamondbacks in 2015 before establishing himself as his prep man in 2017. He shot well into the Arizona bullpen back end until the 2020 negotiation deadline, when it was traded to the Reds and posted an ERA 1.17 in the last month. The Phillies’ new pitcher, Caleb Cotham, came from Cincinnati.

Bradley has an ERA of 2.95 in 221 games over the past four seasons, mostly as a man of preparation. He also saved 18 games for the Diamondbacks in 2019, when pressed for duty after Greg Holland’s fights.

Bradley’s fastball averaged 94.4 mph last season. Historically, it has been mainly a fast ball and a curved four-seater ball, with some weights and changes mixed.

He is the third reliever that the Phillies have added since the last week of December. The first two negotiations for new baseball operations president Dave Dombrowski were for left-handed reliever Jose Alvarado of the Rays and right-handed Sam Coonrod of the Giants.

More to come …
