OnePlus will continue its expansion beyond smartphones in the new year, launching a cheap fitness tracker, according to a new leak.
Android Central reports that the OnePlus Band will be an affordable $ 40 alternative to the OnePlus Watch, another device confirmed to enter the OnePlus line. The band is expected to be released during the first quarter of 2021, meaning it may debut alongside OnePlus 9, which rumors say will be released in March.
Features listed for the OnePlus Band include water resistance, an AMOLED screen and a battery that lasts for several days. A price of $ 40 would also make this wearable extremely cheap: most of the best cheap fitness trackers are in the $ 70 to $ 90 range, except for the Amazfit Band 5 and the Xiaomi Mi Band series. By the way, both the Mi Band 4 and the Mi Band 5 share the same three features, so OnePlus may have looked to Xiaomi specifically for inspiration.
This aggressive price would also reflect OnePlus’ approach to its phones, which are usually cheaper than its closest rivals, especially in the case of OnePlus Nord.
Unlike the OnePlus watch equipped with Wear OS, the OnePlus Band can use a proprietary operating system and should be much lighter and thinner, to emphasize its focus on fitness. Interestingly, the Android Central report states that OnePlus will initially sell the OnePlus Band in India, although, as the OnePlus Watch is apparently set for a worldwide launch, and all OnePlus phones have been launched worldwide, you can expect OnePlus Band will be sold elsewhere as well.
In any case, a revelation from the first quarter of 2021 means that we won’t have to wait long to see what makes the OnePlus band work. Assuming it is released next or together with the OnePlus 9 and variants like the OnePlus 9 Lite, it will be interesting to see if the devices can interact with each other in some special way.
