Olivia Thompson’s first year at the University of South Carolina was a year for books.
Former 5A player of the year at Lexington High, she knows firsthand the work that has been done to make Gamecock’s women’s basketball program what it is today.
As a quarry, she stepped onto the court in the same arena where she grew up watching other big names in Gamecock and set a career record with 10 points against Alabama State.
The race continued with exciting victories against SEC rival Mississippi, and a historic victory over UConn, before ending with an SEC title.
Although she and her teammates could not compete for that illustrious national championship, Thompson had her only brilliant moment on Wednesday night, when Dawn Staley presented her with a full scholarship.
Thompson described it as yet another dream come true.
His companions immediately shared his excitement.
