As Page explains the song, it is clear that they are not as familiar with Rodrigo as they may seem. “I think it’s about a girl getting her driver’s license. It’s bittersweet because it’s something she and her ex always talked about,” adds Bennett, clearly familiar. “That’s what I guessed based on hearing it for the first time now.”

The guys then talk about what inspired the lyrics, including Rodrigo’s supposed relationship with High School Musical: The Musical: The Series the costar Joshua Bassett, who supposedly moved with Sabrina Carpenter.

Soon after, the guys find themselves singing exciting lyrics, using their pool cues as microphones. They went on to reveal their knowledge of young pop singers, comparing Rodrigo to Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, before once again letting their emotions – triggered by music – get the best of them.

The sketch ended with the boys hugging each other, singing the bridge at the top of their lungs.

Rodrigo, who turned 18 on February 20, shared his excitement about having his debut single featured in a SNL sketch. “DRIVERS LICENSE SNL SKETCH IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT OF ALL TIME,” she tweeted.
