Olivia Rodrigo responds to drama rumors with Joshua Bassett

“Driver’s license” now has the record for most streams of a song in a week and the maximum streams of a song outside the holiday in a single day on Spotify. It is also the fastest music to reach 100 million streams in the service.

Not bad for a debut single, huh!

“You have managed to turn one of the most frightening and painful moments of my life into something so positive and powerful,” she added. “Sad shit girl forever.”

The short (and not yet confirmed) version is a little bit like this …

At about the same time that Olivia began to imply a breakup, Joshua was photographed at an apparent lunch with Sabrina Carpenter. Fans noticed that Sabrina fits the vague description of the girl Olivia’s ex-boyfriend leaves her in “Driver’s License” – blonde and older than her – and that the lyrics of the song, which originally referred to a brunette has actually been changed from an earlier version to fit Sabrina’s appearance.

There were also a lot of other things that made it look like “Driver’s License” was about Joshua, including a subtle music video of the two while apparently dating appearing in the video, as well as lyrical references that seem to confirm the song is about him (Olivia refers to boy in question driving a white car and, you know, Joshua drives a white car).

A complete analysis of the drama is right here if you are interested.

“To see it really well – to have this really painful moment in my life and turn it into something beautiful that can perhaps help people in a difficult time that they are going through, as if I were going through a difficult time – is so empowering” she continued. “I am grateful to have done this.”
