The New York Democrat, in an e-mailed press release on Friday, joined other officials to call for an investigation into how the Cuomo government dealt with asylum coronavirus outbreaks.
“I support the return of our state to co-egalitarian governance and defend our local authorities, calling for a full investigation into the management of nursing homes by the Cuomo government during COVID-19,” the statement said.

“Thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers lost their lives in nursing homes during the pandemic. Your loved ones and the public deserve answers and transparency from your elected leadership, and the Secretary’s comments to the Governor justify a thorough investigation, ”the statement said.
The statement makes Ocasio-Cortez one of the New York lawmakers with the highest profile calling for an investigation into COOMO-19’s Cuomo management in nursing homes.
Cuomo faced a bipartisan reaction last month due to the way his administration handled coronavirus outbreaks at the facility, after admitting at least some responsibility for retaining data on coronavirus-related deaths in New York asylums.
The disaster began after New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) released a report last month finding that the administration underestimated the number of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes by up to 50 percent.

DeRosa later said in a statement that he delayed the state legislature’s request to deal with a Justice Department inquiry. However, his admission has since led to bipartisan calls for investigation.
The Albany Times-Union reported on Wednesday that the FBI and the United States Attorney in Brooklyn are investigating how the Cuomo government is dealing with outbreaks of COVID-19 in nursing homes.
State lawmakers on both sides of the corridor are also pushing for a measure to remove the emergency powers from the governor that allowed him to control all parts of the state’s response to the coronavirus.
