New York Republican Dutchess County executive Marc Molinaro on Monday called for an impeachment case and a criminal investigation against Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo over the alleged cover-up of deaths in nursing homes under his administration.
“We know all the time that this is America’s most corrupt and least transparent administration,” Molinaro told America Reports. “Now we know that it is also the deadliest.”
Molinaro, who ran unsuccessfully against Cuomo for governor in 2018, said the New York state assembly should start the impeachment process, while state or federal investigators should start an investigation of government actions.
He said Cuomo “is not fit to hold public office” after allegedly handing “manipulated data” to the federal government, pressing hospitals and businesses to close on the basis of that data, and continuing to lie about the number of deaths in nursing homes in the state.

Molinaro added that Albany has been “incompetent” for a long time and argued that those who issued or applied guidelines to return COVID-positive patients to nursing homes should offer apologies to the American people and then deliver their resignations.
Cuomo’s aides revealed that state laws have been very lenient with nursing homes, noting that no facility has lost its licenses despite the widespread deaths of COVID-19.

“I think a lot of these nursing homes, frankly, in retrospect, even before COVID, have been getting away for many years,” Melissa DeRosa, Cuomo’s aide, told Democratic lawmakers last week, according to audio analyzed by the New York Post .
The New York Department of Health carried out 2,284 asylum infection control inspections between the start of the pandemic and February 4. However, audits resulted in just 170 violations, totaling about $ 1.3 million in fines, with a $ 10,000 per violation limit.
