Alabama has yet to officially sign Bill O’Brien, but coach Nick Saban appears to be closed.

O’Brien should return to training in Tuscaloosa as the new offensive coordinator for the national champion, replacing Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian stepped down to become the principal technician at the University of Texas.

The Texans fired O’Brien as general manager and head coach in October, after a 0-4 start. O’Brien, hired as head coach before the 2014 season, was 52-48 in Houston.

“I think he did a very good job in Houston when he was the head coach, “Saban told Brandon Kyle Scott of Sports Radio 610 in Houston.” I think when he became the general manager, maybe things didn’t go exactly as he wanted, trying to have both roles. Having been the head coach of that league, I know how difficult it is to do both, probably impossible. “

“So, based on the body of work until [becoming G.M.], I think he is an excellent coach and a very good person. He has a great family and I think he will do a great job with our players here. I have always tried to have the best knowledge and experience I can for our players and their development, and I certainly think he can contribute to this in a very positive way. “
